Why I keep going back to Ireland

I love Ireland, like love Ireland. As a Redhead I’m drawn there, as if by some invisible string that has a potato attached to the end.

I’ve been to Ireland 3 times, and my last trip was a clockwise road trip. So why do the same thing for trip number 4? Because it’s Ireland! And it’s stunning and beautiful – and because my Introvert self finally got to do it Solo. Finally!

And I’d been working 18 months straight on two back to back contracts and I was burnt. I wanted an escape I knew I would enjoy and Ireland is like a cozy wool blanket.

Kimini and I had the car to ourselves, no one to question our choice of playlists or podcasts and an entire country that was going to give us strange looks for reasons other than being Redheads.

And there are always new things to see, places to discover – like Arranmore, an island off the Northeast Coast, which is a version of Paradise for Introverts (see post).

My new house on the Dingle Peninsula?

Failing that I found this perfect little house on the Dingle Peninsula, complete with Dolmen on the left and a Clochán on the right. A possible Neolithic tomb and a stone beehive hut in the front garden? What’s not to love?

Along the Wild Atlantic Way there are many truly breathtaking spots, from County Cork all the way up to County Donegal.

The views and walks with nothing between you and the Eastern Seaboard of Canada & the United States are sights to behold.

And some days you get sunsets stretching across the ocean showing off the stunning Skellig Michael and the smallest sliver of the moon overhead – and those days never get old.

Other days it’s blitzing off the beaten path to find Neolithic Dolmens and Tombs, or rocks carved with Ogham letters in the middle of lust green farmer’s fields.

Those are only the country options, then there are the small villages all decked out with flowers and flags, and the random pubs that appear out of nowhere. Don’t forget Dublin – home to one of my favourite rooms in the entire world: The Library at Trinity College. And the book of Kells only gets more impressive.

In the best possible way Ireland is a place simplicity, where the most stressful part of the day is choosing the pub for dinner.
